Arbitration

We routinely serve both as counsel for parties engaged in arbitration and as arbitration judges or "arbitrators".  Together Dick Watt and John Beckworth have served as arbitrators for the duration of the firm's existence and are usually engaged in at least one substantial multi-party arbitration at any given time.  Dick Watt has been recognized in Houston as a go-to arbitration advocate and arbitrator and focuses on energy and real property matters.  John Beckworth is a member of the ABA Section of International Law and its International Commercial Dispute Resolution Committee, the Advisory Board for the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, and he has completed the University of Houston  A.A. White Dispute Resolution Center's Advanced Domestic & International Commercial Arbitration course.  In addition, we have successfully tried to conclusion for defendants several multi-million dollar arbitrations in which damages claimed ranged from $15 million to $250 million. The firm also has prosecuted successfully for plaintiffs substantial arbitration claims and has to its credit one multi-million dollar arbitration settlement.  We are engaged on an ongoing basis in representing the nation's largest financial institutions in employee arbitration matters, and we routinely represent claimants in consumer construction and securities fraud arbitrations. We have also successfully tried to conclusion arbitrations matters ranging from alleged fraud in an oil and gas joint venture in the Middle East, to large asset purchases in the Barnett Shale, to a multi-million dollar tortious interference claim involving telediagnostics technology in military tactical vehicles.
